An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked several areas in the southern part of West Java, on Sunday (20/03/2011). An earthquake centered in 113 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi at a depth of 10 km that occurred at around 8:20 pm.
"The quake was felt in the area of Sukabumi, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Cianjur," said Pepen Efendi, Officer BMKG Bandung, Sunday morning.
No reports of damage from this earthquake. However, the rocking was felt residents in the southern region of West Java. Pepen mention, the source of the earthquake is the location of plate collision with the plate Indoeuronesia Indoaustronesia quite active.
"The point of collision is quite active there. However, its location is different from the epicenter in the sea off Tasikmalaya," said Pepen.
West Java is the path of the earthquake-prone. Finally, a high magnitude earthquake occurred on September 9, 2009 and caused damage in some areas in the southern part of West Java.
