Blankets for India Post-Tsunami Japanese Earthquake Victims


NEW DELHI - India sent its first plane carrying blankets to Japan, following the deadly earthquake and tsunami that occurred in the country, according to news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

"India sends blankets made ​​of wool with good quality that is destined for the citizens of Sendai and several other cities affected by the earthquake in Japan. The first plane was ready to depart," said Secretary of Foreign Affairs of India, Nirupama Rao, who was quoted in a twitter page news agency Xinhua. "After discussions with the Japanese Ambassador in Delhi, we felt blankets are the items most needed and useful in cold weather conditions in areas affected by disaster," he said.

Indian Foreign Ministry official also said that Haryana and Punjab governments also assist in the provision of large amounts of wool blankets for the victims of natural disasters in Japan who lost their homes, according to the report.

Officials said that all forms of assistance will be expanded immediately to Japan and the Indian government continues to make regular contacts with the Japanese envoy in Delhi
